　ソトに広がる世界から、ウチなる自分を見つめるということ/オイゲン・へリゲル著の『弓と禅』

　英国で日本人がシンプルなデザインを出すと「Zenだね」と言われる。当初は皆良く知っているなと思っていたが、なんのことはない。日本食ブーム同様、流行としてミニマル、白と黒があれば「禅」があると思っている。
　だからこそ、アジア人として上っ面のデザインを避けるべく本書を何度も読み返す。著者は日本で教鞭を取っていたドイツ人哲学教授。日本人によらない客観化された日本論。競技ではない、精神活動としての弓道から禅の思想を探す試み。

　自己との対話だと思う。ウチなる自分を見つめる。その先に自己からの解放があるのではないか？それに対し、現代に生きる私たちはソトに答えを求めがちだ。インターネットでは簡単に検索結果が手に入り、そこに常時接続されたスマートフォンが隙間時間に入り込めば、ウチなる自分との対話時間は減っていく。また、“グローバル志向”というのも日本のソトに答えがあると思っているからではないか？インターネット、グローバルそのものに答えはない。
　英語で生活するというのは、ネットではないリアルな世界を廻るブラウザーを手に入れるようなものだ。道具、手段でしかない。そこで気付く。自分は何を発信できるのか？自分は何者なのか？という問いが跳ね返ってくる。ソトに広がるほど、ウチなる自分と向き合わなければならない。それを見つめることは勇気がいる。ソーシャルネットワークのように、ただ知り合いの数を増やすこととは対極な動機が求められる。
　禅。難しい。しかし、日本人として伝えたい。しかもそれは厳粛な畳の上で正座して議論するというよりも、ここではパブでビール片手に語らうものとなる。大学教授による学術的日本論ではなく、ジャパニーズアーキテクトによる実践的日本論。しかし、それを繰り返すことでしか確固たる答えは形成されない。海外に出ることの意義はソトの世界を知るだけでなく、ナカを知ることでもある。それはアジア人、日本人、そして自分自身を知ることにもつながる。

Zen. Looking into ourselves in globalization age
 "Does this design come from Zen?"
In the U.K., when I produce something simple, people say that. I was impressed everyone knew Japanese culture very well. But I realized they use that word as their fashion when they saw something minimal with black and whitecolour.
 Therefore, I, as a far east Asian, have to avoid using the surface of our culture.I have read the book, "Zen in the Art of Archery" many times. The author is a German professor of philosophy who lived and taught in Japan. It is an objective thesis about Japan by non-Japanese. He, as a foreigner, researched the Zen philosophy with archery which is not as sports but as a mental activity.
 Zen is like a monologue. It looks into us. Then, it released from us. Today, we tend to look for answers from outside of us. Especially, from the internet,it is easy to search information.Moreover, we have lost opportunities to conduct a monologue since smart-phonesinvaded our time. Also in terms of concept of globalization, do we think to find answers if going abroad? There is no answer on the internet and overseas.
 Dealing with the life in English environment is like internet browsers for surfing the real world.
 It is only a tool. And then, I realize, "What can I tell people in the world?" In other word, "Who am I?" The simple questions come back to me. The wider our view expands, the deeper we have to look inside of us. It requires our courage and it is totally opposite motivation to connect your friends on SNS, such as facebook.
 What is "Zen"? It is hard to figure out. We, however, shouldn t stop thinking and discussing. Moreover, it is discussion with beer pints at the pub rather than at quiet tatami room. It is not an academic thesis by a professor, but a practical one by a Japanese architect. The idea would be formalized by only repeated discussions. One of purpose of going abroad is to look into ourselves as well as outside of our country. It looks for our origin, such as Asian, Japanese and ourselves.
